Carrie O’Neill studied visual arts at The Evergreen State College. She exhibits her work locally, and has taught drawing and painting to people of all ages.
Working primarily in watercolor and ink, Carrie enjoys making lines that are delicate yet expressive. She draws inspiration from her family, capturing the quiet moments of a life well-lived. Carrie’s recent work explores flower and plant symbolism, a language popularized in the Victorian era.
“Fortune Teller,” a work in watercolor and ink, appears on the cover of the City of Olympia’s Fall 2010 Arts Walk guide. The painting is a meditation on the nature of relationship, inspired in part by Goethe’s poem “Gingko Biloba,” in which the poet mused about the shape of the Gingko leaf: is it one entity being split into two, or two beings, in the process of merging?
In addition to being selected as the cover artist for Fall Arts Walk, during the first weekend of October Carrie will show paintings at Bryce's Barbershop with papercut artist Nikki McClure. In November 2010, Carrie will exhibit her work at Capitol Florist in downtown Olympia.
